Consumers waited for more than a year for the arrival of the Apple iPhone 4S. It did not turn out to be the highly awaited iPhone 5 but no one can deny the fact that it is the best among Apple’s cell phones. However, there are plenty of iPhone alternatives in the market like the Samsung Epic 4G Touch from Sprint. Can the iPhone 4S top the competition this year? Or will Apple’s popular product finally topple from its pedestal. Let’s compare the newest iPhone with the Samsung Epic 4G Touch to see if the 4S can keep up with the competition.

Here’s an interesting one that’s going to raise some eyebrows – it’s an interactive multimedia preview of the Lumia 800, so you can get a tiny taster of the Metro UI on your Symbian device. While a number of die-hard Symbian fans are going to be very upset at the slightest hint of a possibility of a transition, it’s another smart move from the marketing teams working on the Lumia launch.

As well as opening up the lock screen on the virtual Lumia 800, there are walkthroughs of the People hub, the Windows Phone Marketplace, and the built in Internet Explorer browser.

There’s also some smart touches that let you change the colour of the phone, and an animated gallery of images.

It will be very interesting to see how many downloads this gets (and the conversion rate to new handset sales), but it does say one thing. N

‘First step’ to perfect drug combinations

Posted by Lola Lindeman On October - 26 - 2011 NO Comment

The researchers found a way of identifying ideal drug combinations from billions of others which would prevent inflammation from occurring.

The findings, published in Nature Chemical Biology, could be the first step in the development of new drug combinations to combat severe diseases and conditions.

Most non-infectious disease, such as cancer, stroke and Alzheimer’s are worsened by inflammation, which is the body’s natural defence mechanism.

Inflammation has evolved to help fight infection but can also be very damaging in long term disease, prolonging suffering and ultimately risking premature death.

After a stroke, the body reacts to the injury as if it were an infection, causing further damage.

Sprint, Clearwire may help drive LTE convergence

Posted by Brodie Boyce On October - 24 - 2011 NO Comment

Cooperation between Sprint Nextel and Clearwire on LTE should help to bring two versions of that technology together, leading to increased device choices and roaming opportunities for subscribers in developed markets.

Sprint disclosed Wednesday that it has agreed to work with Clearwire to make the two carriers’ LTE (Long-Term Evolution) networks work together. Sprint will turn to Clearwire for additional capacity to fill growing mobile data demand, probably beginning in 2013. Because the two carriers plan to use different types of LTE, they will need to make the two versions work together smoothly, a development that may have impact beyond the two U.S. partners.

Sprint and Clearwire currently share a WiMax network, with Clearwire as the operator and Sprint reselling services for its 4G phones and data devices.

Get a landline redirect with Orange Pocket Landline for £10/month

Posted by Jackson Walton On October - 23 - 2011 NO Comment

I just came across this service from the team at Orange Business called Pocket Landline. It does what it says on the tin.

For a tenner a month, you pick a local landline number thats redirected to your Orange Business mobile number. Job done. Thats it.

Its a really good concept aimed at businesses who might ordinarily just advertise a mobile number. As we all know, that doesnt necessarily give customers the impression of longevity. Landline numbers look better. At least thats the angle that Orange takes with its marketing.

The past couple of weeks has seen the web filled with tributes to Steve Jobs who passed away on October 5th. With those tributes has been a lot of imagery and video from Jobs’ history, some of which has rarely been viewed before.

There is one piece of footage that has never been seen before though, and was actually thought lost forever. It’s the full interview with Steve Jobs from 1995 when he was still running NeXT.

Around about 10 minutes of the interview was used for the show Triumph of the Nerds, but few people know that around 64 minutes of interview was given by Jobs that day at NeXT headquarters in Redwood City. Why have we never seen the rest? Bec
