Asiana Airlines of South Korea has become a new customer for the A380 following the signature of a firm order for six aircraft in Jan 2011 (Courtesy of Airbus) The world’s largest jetliner, Airbus A380, has dominated the skies since its introduction in 2007. Facebook in talks to hire Obama ex-aide Gibbs: report

– Facebook, the social networking giant, is seeking to hire former White House press secretary Robert Gibbs for a senior post, The New York Times reported.

The newspaper reported on its website late on Sunday that Facebook is looking at Gibbs, once one of President Barack Obama’s closest aides, to help manage communications in advance of an initial public offering planned for early next year.

Ricoh posts firmware update for GXR system & GR Digital III

Ricoh has announced function-enhancing firmware updates for its GXR interchangeable lens cameras and the GR Digital III compact. In response to user feedback, the GXR firmware adds five processing filters, a subject tracking focus and exposure mode, and a revised magnified playback option. The GR Lens A12 28mm and 50mm modules also gain an option to assign white balance or exposure compensation to the zoom buttons. China dismisses Google accusations on Gmail

– China’s Foreign Ministry on Tuesday said that it could not accept accusations from Google Inc that the Chinese government was making it difficult for Gmail users to access the service in the country.

“This is an unacceptable accusation,” ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu told a regular news conference.

Google said any difficulty users in China may have faced in the past few weeks accessing its email service was likely to be the result of government blocks.

Japan Telecom Networks Won’t Be Fully Restored for Months

Damaged caused to telecommunications networks in Japan by the March 11 earthquake will take months to fully repair.

The earthquake caused massive disruption to the country’s telephone network mainly from damage to infrastructure or overloading. The latter has now eased but a lot of work remains until base stations are repaired or replaced in the affected area.

NTT DoCoMo, Japan’s largest cellular carrier, said two thirds of its 10,000 base stations in northern Japan were out of action immediately following the earthquake but the network has rapidly recovered. As of 1 pm Thursday, the carrier still had 810 base stations out of action, said Naoko Minobe, a spokeswoman for the company.

Recovering in some areas could take several months.
